SHOWING UP FOR YOUR OWN PARTY would be my friend and coauthor, John David Williams #1 rule of hosting a successful party, driving home the fact that many are too nervous and frazzled to make their guests feel at ease. However using items and spaces in unexpected ways is what i feel turns a stuffy/pretentious party into

an enjoyable and memorable one. Wall mirrors used as trays, a guest room used for a bar area or vegetables and fruit stepping in as vases or place card holders all share with your guests how easy, enjoyable and FUN opening your home can be. Now throw out the fact that "Tarnished Silver is IN" and they'll be ready to host the next gathering in their own home!
